A local Chinese government official has been touring South Korean enterprises to bid for investment and cooperation in a move out of tune with the economic and diplomatic strife over Seoul’s plan to deploy U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system in Korea.

Wang Rongping, Party Secretary of the CPC Yancheng Municipal Committee at Yancheng City in Jiangsu province in China, visited Hyundai Motor Group’s headquarters in Yangjae-dong, southern Seoul, Wednesday. Wang commands top rank in the largest city of Jiangsu in the east coast.

Hyundai Motor Group affiliate Kia Motors Corp. runs three manufacturing plants in Yancheng City, which together could churn out 890,000 units every year accounting for 37 percent of the carmaker’s entire output in China.

Later in the day, Wang also stopped at LG Display headquarters in Yeouido, western Seoul, inviting investment in his city. The display maker operates a production line for display modules in Nanjing, another city in Jiangsu Province.
