South Korea’s exports have expanded in the first 10 days of this month, extending gains for the fifth straight month in a row largely helped by brisk overseas shipments of petrochemical goods, semiconductors and automobiles.

According to data from the Korea Customs Service Saturday, exports came to $14.3 billion for the March 1 – 10 period, up 19.3 percent from the same period last year.

Korean exports have maintained its winning streak since last November. Looking at the first two months this year alone, exports posted double-digit on-year growth in January and February, rising 11.2 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively.

By item, exports of petroleum products spiked 109.7 percent on year, automobiles 50.8 percent and semiconductors 32.3 percent.

By country, exports to Vietnam rose 42.9 percent on year, followed by Japan 20.0 percent and China 18.3 percent. Outbound shipments to the U.S. and the European Union, on the other hand, slipped 1.3 percent and 15.1 percent, respectively, from a year earlier.
