According to Yonhap News,
(SEOUL=Yonhap News) POSCO, South Korea's leading steelmaker, said Wednesday that its specialty steel jointly developed with Exxon Mobil Corp. will be supplied for the production of the U.S.-based oil company's slurry pipeline.
POSCO said it has agreed with Exxon to produce and supply high manganese steel that the steel giant developed with the world's largest publicly traded oil producer.
The high manganese steel will be used to make Exxon's slurry pipelines, specially made to move oil sands.
Over the past five years, the two have been working to adopt high manganese steel in making slurry pipelines.
High manganese steel is highly abrasion resistant and known for high impact strength, which will help extend the duration of slurry pipelines, according to POSCO.
