Medizen Humancare, South Korea’s personal gene testing service provider, announced on Monday that it signed a definitive agreement with Baidu Korea, the Korean category service operator of China’s largest web portal.

The contract is a follow-up to an MOU signed in January and marks the first time that a Korean genome analysis company has sealed a legally binding deal with China’s leading web portal.

Under the agreement, Medizen Humancare will be able to rely on Baidu’s broad network to penetrate into the country’s online gene testing market, while venturing into genome analysis for state-managed young sport talents in China.

“It is a comprehensive package beyond simple gene testing, which will include tailored cosmetics, health supplements, fitness equipment and exercise and diet consulting. The legally-binding contract also stipulates a minimum order quantity,” said Shin Dong-jik, CEO of Medizen Humancare.

Medizen Humancare’s genome analysis service to be available through Baidu is called MELTHY ASIA, the company’s new gene testing for Asian customers. It consists of 12 tests on health screening including skin health and hair loss risk. In particular, 10 types of the company’s exercise genome packages will be used for young sport talents registered with Chinese sport authorities to improve their performance and prevent injuries.
