(SEOUL=Yonhap News) Korea and Belgium have agreed to cooperate on sharing information and experience on small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Korea's Small & Medium Business Corporation (SBC) revealed June 15 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Belgium's Walloon Export and Foreign Investment Agency (AWEX) and Brussels Invest & Export (BE&I) on the previous day at the Grand Hyatt Seoul, to push forward with joint projects between the two countries on SMEs.
AWEX and BE&I are government-affiliated organizations that were established to promote foreign trade and investment in Walloon and Brussels.
Based on the MOU, SBC and the Belgium organizations promised each other to share information and experience on SMEs and strengthen cooperative ties between the SMEs of each country.
The signing ceremony was attended by Princes Astrid of Belgium, who is visiting Korea until Saturday with a 258-member economic delegation of high-level government officials and representative of some 110 Belgian companies.
Earlier on June 13, SBC and the Embassy of Belgium in Korea co-hosted an SME business consultation meeting, inviting some 140 SMEs from the two countries.
SBC President Lim Chae-un noted, "Belgium is a European hub that is considered an SME paradise for having pursued advanced policies in nurturing SMEs," adding, "SBC will actively support Korean SMEs so that they may successfully enter Belgium and other European markets."
