The South Korean government will allow consumers in other countries to buy Korean products online at discounts during the Korea Sale Festa 2017, seeking to promote the government-sponsored nationwide bargain sales event as a global shopping phenomenon like Black Friday in the U.S. or Single’s Day in China.

During the month-long mega sales event to be held from September 28 to October 31, Korea’s eight leading online shopping malls including G Market and Lotte.com as well as 28 overseas e-commerce sites from 28 countries like Japan’s Rakuten and India’s Flipkart will offer Korea-related products at discounted rates, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Tuesday.

Last year, 21 foreign online shops from 10 countries participated in the Korea Sale Festa.

All products purchased on Korean online stores will be shipped to overseas consumers by Korea Post at rates 30 percent off from the regular international shipping charges.
