(INCHEON=Yonhap News) Japan's Amada, world no. 1 in sheet metal fabrication, has agreed to build a metal fabrication machinery technical center for cutting-edge education and training at the Songdo International Business District in Incheon.

To mark the beginning of construction, a ceremony attended by Amada President Tsutomu Isobe and representatives of Fujita, the project developer, was held on September 13 at the new site.

Amada plans to complete construction by next August, resulting in a 5-story office building and technical center on 6,000 square meters of land, and covering a total floor area of 4,000 square meters.

When it opens, the new center will provide theoretical and practical education in the latest technologies for precision sheet metal fabrication, as well as in new machinery, exclusive software and molding.

In particular, the company plans to utilize the center for cultivating professional talent for the industry in cooperation with local universities and industrial education institutions in Incheon, and connect them with companies in the industry in an attempt to help local small and medium companies alleviate the shortage of employees.

According to Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) Vice Commissioner Kim Jin-yong, "When it begins full-scale operations in October 2018, Amada's technical center is expected to cultivate high-quality technical human resources and thus raise the global competitiveness of Korea's manufacturing industries."
