(SEOUL=Yonhap News) On September 24, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which supports member states in Central and South America to achieve further economic development, co-hosted the 3rd Ministerial Forum between Korea and Latin America & the Caribbean at the Nurimaru APEC House in Busan.

Themed 'Digital Infrastructure and Digital Economy Development', the forum was attended by some 70 dignitaries, including ministers and deputy ministers from 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean such as Guatemala, Mexico, Argentina and Chile, as well as representative of the IDB.

During his opening speech, Minister You Young Min emphasized that the international society must join hands in order to solve our biggest challenges, such as social polarization and changes in the labor market brought on by the 4th industrial revolution, and achieve sustainable growth.

In the following luncheon, participants discussed ways in which growth may be achieved through digital innovation, and listened to a presentation by the ministry on Korea's ICT infrastructure and investment policies for IoT (Internet of Things), big data, AI (artificial intelligence), and other new technologies.

The forum ended with the participating countries adopting the 'Busan Declaration' on sharing experience on ICT technology and policies and strengthening cooperation in ICT fields.

Minister You expressed that he hopes the forum will be the first step in creating a foundation to increase exchange on the 4th industrial revolution so that Korea and Central and South American countries can all prosper."
