According to Yonhap News,
(SEJONG=Yonhap News) Retail sales in South Korea jumped 6.3 percent in April compared with a year ago on the back of upbeat sales at online stores, government data showed Wednesday.
Sales of 13 major online stores and marketplaces soared 15.9 percent on-year last month, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said, without disclosing their sales figures.
Sales of 13 offline-based retailers, including department stores, discount chains and convenience stores, also inched up 1 percent over the period due to upbeat sales at convenience stores, the ministry said.
Among offline retailers, big discount retail outlets suffered a 4.5 percent on-year decline, while sales at convenience stores logged a 10 percent on-year rise.
Sales at online malls soared 25 percent on-year in April as more people opted for online grocery shopping aided by fast delivery service, the data showed.
