According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) South Korea's firms listed on the tech-laden KOSDAQ bourse increased their investment 16.7 percent on-year in 2018, data showed Tuesday.

A total of 366 companies listed on the KOSDAQ market poured an aggregate 7.21 trillion won (US$6.37 billion) into investment, up 1.03 trillion won from the previous year, according to the data by the KOSDAQ Listed Companies Association.

Of the total, money pouring into new facilities surged 38.9 percent on-year to 1.29 trillion won, the association said, adding that such firms as secondary battery cell makers and bio companies particularly tried to beef up their capacities.

Corporate funding for other companies aimed at business diversification and the improvement in governance structure, among others, also rose 14.6 percent to 4.95 trillion won in 2018, according to the data.

"Under unfavorable global economic circumstances, smaller and medium-sized companies appear to have been proactively seeking to lay the groundwork for future growth by expanding investment," the association said.
