Gov't to create smart farming ecosystem for sustainable growth
Date
2019.04.26

According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) South Korea will strive to create a smart farming ecosystem that takes full advantage of the latest breakthroughs in technology to transform agriculture into a sustainable, future growth industry, the government said Thursday.

"Farming needs to be viewed as a growth engine, and by incorporating information and communication technology and biotech, meaningful innovation can take place," the ministry said in a statement.

It said the country will concentrate its resources in areas such as robotic and drone-based farming, strive to use a dedicated agricultural satellite and introduce advanced plant breeding and microbes in the raising of crops.

Digital ledgers such as blockchains, can be utilized to track produce from the farm to the table to give consumers greater confidence in what they are eating, according to the ministry.
