On September 4, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) announced that it signed an MOU with Myanmar’s development committee for startups on September 3, during President Moon's tour of Southeast Asian countries.
The MSS also plans to sign a MOU with Laos startup authorities on transferring of startup-related policies, exchanges, and cooperation on SMEs matters on September 5.
By taking the MOUs as an opportunity, Korea, Myanmar, and Laos agree to hold policy discussion to share innovative policies and programs concerning startups.
To facilitate exchanges of personnel, the three will also push for networking and training projects for civil servants and startups.
The MSS expected to pass on development experience of Korea's startup ecosystem to Myanmar and Laos, where the ecosystem of startups about to spring up, and laying the foundation for cooperation and development of startups.
The MSS plans to expand this cooperation into multilateral cooperation with ASEAN, pursuing the establishment of integrated startups market in which startups in Korea and ASEAN can freely exchange and cooperate.
Director General Roh Yong-suk for Global Market Policy of the MSS said, "We will endeavor to expand the channels for exchange and cooperation, helping Korean startups go global using New Southern area as a stepping stone, and realize an integrated Korea-ASEAN startup market going forward."
