Yu Jeong-yeol, newly appointed President and CEO of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) delivered an inaugural message on May 20 at the head office in Seoul, saying “KOTRA will turn the current changing global trends represented by digital transformation and tougher environmental requirements such as net zero carbon emission control into a great opportunity, not a crisis, to gain growth momentum.”, adding that “We’re now experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic which has brought enormous changes in our lives and business, navigating through crises never seen before.”

Stating core values and mission to represent, the new CEO urged all KOTRA members and employees to proactively confront such challenges and stride forward to attain new goals; digitalization of customer service to help boost export; taking a responsive action towards the global value chain reshuffling; being fully ready for the age of carbon neutrality and digital transformation; and seeking out preemptive approach to new global trade policies, thereby contributing to achieving both quantitative and qualitative growth in FDI attraction and to reaching the target of USD 70 billion in exports and 120,000 exporters as early as possible.

On top of such efforts, KOTRA will take the leadership role in global emissions reduction commitment and the digital industry, providing easier access to new norms in ever-altering global trade landscape, he said.

He also stressed building up an interactive communication channel with customers and partnerships with relevant public bodies, along with sustainable practices in business management., saying “The fact that we’ve certainly played a pivotal role in economic development over the past 60 years is not deniable, but that doesn’t mean everyone is happy with the service we’ve provided thus far.”
Leaving a word in closing, he said, “We’ll spearhead the efforts to forge closer ties with other government agencies and to achieve channel diversity to better communicate with businesses. “
