(SEOUL=Yonhap News) According to CNBC, an American business channel, funding for blockchain-related startups who own the key technology of the 2Q this year, has increased significantly, despite a sharp slump in cryptocurrency prices.

Data analytics firm 'CB Insights' showed that companies in the blockchain industry raised a record USD 4.38 billion (about KRW 5.032 trillion), topping USD 4 billion for the first time.

It is a nearly nine-fold increase from the same period a year earlier, and 50% from the previous quarter.

Of them, Circle, a payments and digital currency firm, attracted the largest financing of USD 440 million.

Meanwhile, CNBC reported that funding for fintech companies also hit a new record, raising USD 30.8 billion in the second quarter.

It is almost triple the amount raised by fintechs in the same period last year, and up 30% from the previous quarter.

In particular, Europe’s fintech startups gained 50 percent of the total funding.
