Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has decided to strengthen its cooperation with the government of the Philippines to help achieve the energy policy goals set by the Philippine government, marking the 30th anniversary of KEPCO’s entry into the Philippines.
On February 25, KEPCO announced that its President Kim Dong-cheol met with the Minister of Energy of the Philippines in Manila, , and agreed to collaborate in achieving the country's energy policy goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to 50% by 2040.
President Kim emphasized that KEPCO’s technological expertise can contribute to enhancing energy efficiency and stabilizing the power grid operations of the Philippines.
During their visit to the Philippines on February 24-25, KEPCO signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with the largest local power generation company, Aboitiz, and the largest distribution company, Meralco, to collaborate on developing new technologies and businesses in the power sector, including smart grids and distribution automation.
At the MOU signing ceremony, President Kim stated, “Based on our world-class experience and technological expertise in power grid operation, KEPCO has established the K-Smart Grid platform to efficiently manage power transmission and distribution networks. We expect that our collaboration will maximize mutual benefits in the Philippine power market.”
