According to Yonhap News,
On April 9, the city of Ulsan announced that it will support Hyundai Motor's establishment of a hydrogen fuel cell factory in Ulsan.
Ulsan-si will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Motor at the City Hall to facilitate the establishment of the hydrogen fuel cell factory.
Under the MOU, Ulsan-si will provide administrative support, including dispatching staff, shortening the approval process for the construction of the factory, and easing regulations, to ensure the swift establishment of the hydrogen fuel cell factory.
Hyundai Motor will actively cooperate in the establishment of the hydrogen fuel cell factory in Ulsan. The company will also seek continuous investments to ensure Ulsan becomes a hub for the production of eco-friendly vehicles, including hydrogen electric vehicles.
Ulsan and Hyundai Motor have agreed to work together to enhance the competitiveness of automotive parts suppliers and create local jobs.
The Hyundai Motor hydrogen fuel cell factory will adopt a One Factory model, integrating the chemical process (stack manufacturing) and assembly process (system manufacturing), with construction scheduled to begin in the first half of this year.
Hyundai Motor stated, "Through our collaboration with the city of Ulsan, the Ulsan factory will become a key production hub for Hyundai Motor Group’s fuel cell systems."
Ulsan mayor said that "We welcome this investment in the hydrogen fuel cell factory, following the investment in the electric vehicle-exclusive factory, and we will work together with Hyundai to make Ulsan a global leader in future vehicles."
