On May 23, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) announced the "K-FEZ Day in Europe" event was held in London, UK and Frankfurt, Germany showcasing South Korea's Free Economic Zones (FEZs) from May 19-23.
The 'K-FEZ Day' is a collaborative event hosted by MOTIE, the FEZ Planning Office, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), aimed at introducing South Korea's FEZs to investors in major cities around the world. The event was first held in Singapore last year.
The year's event was launched in the UK and Germany, countries ranking first and second in Europe by number of investments made in Korea as of 2024.
Five of Korea’s FEZs including Incheon, Busan-Jinhae, Gwangyang Bay Area, Ulsan, and Chungbuk participated in the event.
In the UK, a 'Korea-UK Investment Seminar' was held, explaining the advantages of Korea'sFEZs and the investment attraction strategies of each FEZ Authority, attended by over 30 UK-based potential investors, including Leonardo and Pure Data Center Group.
In Germany, a 'Korea-Germany Advanced Industries Roundtable' was held with companies such as DB Schenker, AMDT, Prettl, and Wilo Pumps that hold track records of Korea-bound investments. The event focused on requesting additional investments in areas such as future cars, electronics, bio, and machinery/robotics.
Head of MOTIE's Korea’s FEZ Planning Office Lee Hyunjo stated that "K-FEZ Day is a valuable opportunity to introduce our Free Economic Zones face-to-face in major investor countries. We will continue to manage and build on the outcomes of this event."
