According to Yonhap News,

On July 16th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) jointly held a "Trade Barrier Response Briefing" at the Trade Tower in Gangnam, Seoul.

At the briefing, attended by trade officials from industry associations, relevant agencies, and companies, the MOTIE shared trends in overseas import regulations and technical barriers, introduced key cases of non-tariff trade barriers, and discussed government support programs for responding to trade challenges.

In particular, the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) introduced the advanced anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigation techniques used by the United States, such as circumvention investigations and Particular Market Situation (PMS), and explained movements in the European Union (EU) and India, such as extending safeguards and strengthening origin management.

The Technical Barrier to Trade (TBT) Comprehensive Support Center of MOTIE's Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) introduced upcoming technical regulations such as the EU Eco-design, U.S. chemical regulations, and India's machinery certification requirements. They emphasized the need for proactive measures to avoid disadvantages, including export restrictions.

KOTRA shared examples of overcoming non-tariff barriers through local outreach, introducing new types of non-tariff barriers such as environmental and health standards, and economic security issues, in addition to traditional barriers like customs and certifications.

The Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) presented its legal and accounting consulting services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to help them respond to anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations.

An official from MOTIE stated, "Amidst the global trend of protectionism, import and technical regulations are becoming more complex and diverse," and added, "We plan to hold additional regional briefing sessions later this year to share information related to trade barriers."
