According to Yonhap News,

On July 20th, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced the establishment of the "KOTRA Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee" as an in-house AI business and infrastructure control tower.

The "KOTRA AI Committee," led by KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung, will officially launch on July 21st, aiming to support the government's goal of becoming one of the top three AI nations.

Additionally, leading AI experts in Korea, Professor Jang Byung-tak from Seoul National University and Professor Yoon Jong-young from Kookmin University, have been appointed as external committee members to strengthen the expertise in strategy formulation and execution.

At its first meeting, the KOTRA AI Committee will announce its "AI Strategy Direction" with the vision of becoming "Korea’s Leading Organization for the AI Transformation in Trade and Investment." The committee will focus on three main strategies and 11 sub-tasks, including improving the export support system using AI, supporting the globalization of the national AI ecosystem, and expanding the use of AI within KOTRA.

To improve the AI-based export support system, it will pursue initiatives such as introducing AI export assistants, AI-driven digital trade support projects, and expanding infrastructure. To support the globalization of the national AI ecosystem, KOTRA will assist in expanding the overseas presence of businesses and enhancing the competitiveness of the AI industry.

To expand global outreach, KOTRA will promote AI-related exports focused on K-Grid, as well as global AI innovation flagship projects. To strengthen the AI industry's competitiveness, KOTRA will actively conduct research on global AI trends and attract AI talent and companies from overseas.

Notably, to attract overseas AI talent, the AI sector will be added to the Global Talent Development, which was established within KOTRA this year. It plans to actively scout for top AI talent from the United States, Europe, India, and other regions.

President Kang stated, "Massive revolutions like the AI transformation could lead to creation of more opportunities. With the KOTRA AI Committee, we will support the globalization of the national AI ecosystem and accelerate Korea's leap toward becoming one of the top three AI nations and achieving the USD 1 trillion export era."
