According to Yonhap News,
(Incheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sang-yeon = The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) Incheon Regional Headquarters announced on the 21st that Incheon's export value last month reached USD 5.15 billion, up 11.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
Import value stood at USD 5.91 billion, an increase of 27.8 percent, resulting in a trade deficit of USD 760 million.
By sector, semiconductor exports surged 32.3 percent year-on-year to USD 2.05 billion, setting a new all-time monthly record.
Pharmaceuticals (31.1 percent) and cosmetics (33.3 percent) also supported the positive export performance, whereas automobile exports dropped 20.2 percent due to the impact of declining used car exports.
By country, exports to all three major markets increased: China (15.2 percent), Vietnam (15.8 percent), and the United States (18.3 percent).
However, while the proportion of semiconductors in total August exports expanded to 39.9 percent, exports of non-semiconductor items grew by only 1.1 percent.
Han Young-soo, Head of the KITA Incheon Regional Headquarters, stated, "As external uncertainties persist, it is necessary to secure a stable export structure through product diversification as well as quantitative growth."
