Japan's UYEMURA yesterday completed construction of a $6.5 million plating factory for semiconductors, PCB and automotive surfaces in Jangan Industrial Complex No.1 in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province.
The factory is expected to enhance the technological prowess of domestic plating companies highly dependent on foreign companies and strengthen Korea's national competitiveness, Gyeonggi officials said. Korea lags behind advanced countries in plating technology, although it is part of the core foundation for major Korean industries including automobile, electronics and semiconductor.
The global metal-plating company has its origin in medical product sales and expanded its business portfolio to plating solutions in 1915. With offices in eight countries, UYEMURA is the world's first company to establish a research institute specializing in plating.
