The large-scale international motor show in South Korea is set to bring together 29 local and foreign carmakers, and about 290 auto parts makers, said Kwan Young-soo, head of the event's organizing committee and also vice chairman of the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA).
He said local and foreign carmakers plan to unveil 42 new cars at the Seoul Motor Show to be held at an exhibition center in Goyang, just northwest of Seoul, from March 28 through April 7. In 2011, carmakers introduced 54 brand new models.
Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top automaker, plans to unveil HND-9 luxury sports coupe concept while Ssangyong Motor, the local unit of Indian sport utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., plans to premier LIV1 concept and W Summit, a super-luxury version of the Chairman, according to the organizer.
The upcoming motor show is co-hosted by KAMA, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, and the Korea Auto Industries Corp. Association.
The organizer said it hopes to attract 1.2 million spectators and 15,000 foreign buyers during the event, which could generate 1 trillion won (US$921 million) in economic impact.
