According to Pulse by Maeil Business News Korea,

South Korean startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) claimed a significant share of the innovation awards at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2025, which is set to open on January 7th, 2025, in Las Vegas, the United States.

A large number of awards were given in core categories including digital health and artificial intelligence (AI). The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on Monday that Korean companies won 162 out of the 363 CES Innovation Awards presented by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), or 44.6 percent of the total. Among these, SMEs, ventures, and startups claimed 124 awards, representing 76.5 percent of Korea’s entire win.

By category, AI led the way with 18 awards, followed by digital health (17 awards), smart cities (10 awards), sustainable energy and power (8 awards), and good and agri-tech (6 awards). Out of the 20 Best of Innovation Awards - honoring the most innovative technology or product in each field - Korean companies secured seven awards.

Since additional awards may be announced before CES concludes, the number of awards won by Korean companies could increase further.

“We are thrilled to showcase our personal electronic therapy device for degenerative arthritis, ArthronPulse, at CES 2025,” Jeong Jae-joon, chief executive officer of startup EntWick Inc., which won an innovation award in the digital heath category, said. “We will continue to focus on developing innovative electroceuticals that treat diseases safely and effectively without side effects.”

Other SMEs and startups that were recognized include Humanics Co., a fitness company, and The-NExT.AI, engaged in smart cities business.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups, in the meantime, will operate a K-Startup Pavilion at CES 2025 from January 7th to 10th, featuring 127 startup exhibition booths, a record high from the previous year’s 91 participants.
