According to Yonhap News,
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Seung-han = The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) announced that it will launch a new project aimed at promoting the commercialization of space technology, investing KRW 48 billion over the next five years to create new industries in space exploration and foster a technology commercialization and startup ecosystem.
This project is specialized for the space sector and provides step-by-step support—from initial planning to advanced Research and Development (R&D) and follow-up commercialization—based on public research outcomes from universities and government-funded research institutes.
In the first phase, KASA will support 80 planning projects focused on identifying promising technologies and establishing business models.
In the second phase, excellent technologies will be selected through a competitive process based on the phase one planning. KASA will support 20 selected projects with up to KRW 1 billion annually for a maximum of two years.
Subsequently, follow-up support for commercialization will be provided by linking with other projects and public funds.
On the same day, KASA held a meeting with 10 domestic universities interested in space technology commercialization to discuss measures for efficiency.
"We will listen to diverse opinions from researchers by expanding communication with the research field," said Kang Kyung-in, Director of Space Science and Exploration at KASA. "We plan to actively provide support so that the domestic space industry can transition towards a private sector-led structure and strengthen its global competitiveness in the space economy."
