According to Yonhap News,

(Busan = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sang-hyun = The Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) announced on the 13th that cooperation in the maritime and fisheries sector has been included as a major task for the first time in the '4th Master Plan for International Development Cooperation' recently finalized by the government.

The Master Plan for International Development Cooperation is a comprehensive national-level strategy established every five years. It presents the mid-to-long-term direction of international development cooperation based on changes in the internal and external environments and policy achievements.

With the vision of "Realizing Universal Values and Mutual Prosperity," the 4th Master Plan presents four strategic goals—realizing inclusive values, expanding reciprocal win-win cooperation, implementing innovative development, and establishing an integrated system—along with 12 priority tasks.

In particular, as maritime and fisheries cooperation is included as a major task for the first time, cooperation plans such as climate change response, ensuring maritime safety, managing fishery resources, providing aquaculture technology, and responding to maritime crimes for Pacific island nations are expected to be promoted in earnest as part of the national Official Development Assistance (ODA) strategy.

KMI was designated as a specialized institution for international development cooperation in the maritime and fisheries sector in 2020 and has since established a foundation for implementation, including policy research, project identification and planning, and support for project execution and performance management.

Jo Jeong-hee, President of KMI, said, "As a specialized institution for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' international development cooperation, we will strengthen support for the planning and performance management of maritime and fisheries ODA projects and expand policy research."
