According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL = Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Sun-mi – The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced on May 7 that it is launching the "Halal Cosmetics Certification Support Project" to assist domestic cosmetics companies in entering the Halal market.

Halal cosmetics refer to products manufactured, processed, and distributed in accordance with Islamic law, certified for use by Muslims.

Industry analysts forecast that the Halal cosmetics market will grow at an average annual rate of 8.9 percent, increasing from KRW 122 trillion (USD 84 billion) in 2022 to KRW 187 trillion (USD 129 billion) by next year.

In response to this market expansion, the MFDS has decided to implement a project to support K-Beauty's entry into the market.

The MFDS will select 30 companies preparing for Halal certification to provide customized on-site consulting. To enhance the capabilities of working-level staff, step-by-step training programs will be operated, and seminars featuring invited overseas experts will be held.

Furthermore, the ministry will produce and distribute Halal certification guides for specific countries, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, and support the expansion of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) between local certification bodies in at least four countries, including Indonesia, and domestic private certification bodies.

To reduce the burden on companies reviewing Halal ingredients, the ministry will analyze Indonesian regulations to provide information on approximately 4,000 types of Halal-compliant ingredients. It also plans to build an integrated database combining corporate information and Halal regulatory data from 10 countries.

Companies wishing to participate in the Halal Cosmetics Certification Support Project can apply through the websites of the Support Center for Global Regulatory Harmonization of Cosmetics, the Korea Pharmaceutical Traders Association, the Korea Institute of Drug Design and uation, and the Korea Cosmetic Association.
