KOTRA Opens ' Global Talent Center' on February 17
The center launches with the beginning of operations for overseas talent recruitment and K-Tech Pass issuance
The " Global Talent Center," which comprehensively supports the recruitment of excellent overseas talent for domestic companies in the high-tech industry, held an opening ceremony at KOTRA (President Kang Kyung-sung) on January 17, 2025. The center was officially established as a designated legal entity under the "Special Act on Advanced Industry Talent Innovation" (hereinafter referred to as the Special Act), which took effect on January 17, 2025.
Global Talent Center will carry out a range of support activities including publicity, guidance, research, and handling of public petitions related to talent recruitment, as well as organizing overseas recruitment events and talent recruitment delegations. Additionally, the center will be responsible for issuing the new "K-Tech Pass" to identify excellent overseas talent, which the government is launching this year, and providing concierge services to support the settlement of pass holders.
Following the opening ceremony, KOTRA hosted the "K-Tech Pass Support Agency Council," which included representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, the National Institute for International Education, as well as associations and companies from the semiconductor, battery, display, and biotechnology sectors.
A representative from one of the associations attending the council stated, "KOTRA's one-stop service, from matching to recruiting top talent through its global network, will be of great help to companies struggling with overseas talent recruitment." Additionally, an overseas talent from Mexico (a researcher at Hyundai Motor's AAM Research Institute), commented, "Deciding to work in Korea was a significant challenge due to insufficient information," adding, "The center's promotional and recruitment activities will help bring more top overseas talent to Korea."
The center's opening event this year includes plans for talent recruitment seminars, local recruitment fairs, and promotional roadshows linked to academic conferences in four regions: U.S.A (New York, Silicon Valley), U.K. (London), and Singapore. Furthermore, a job fair, "Global Talent Fair," connecting foreign students and recruiting companies, will be held at COEX on May 19-20.
President Kang Kyung-sung of KOTRA emphasized, "As competition in high-tech industries intensifies, recruiting overseas talent can be a stepping stone to safeguarding our economic security," adding, "KOTRA will use the opening of the center as an opportunity to establish a system supporting the entire process from discovering and hiring overseas talent to their settlement, while promoting the appeal and advantages of working in Korea through our overseas office network."
