Expected to play a bridge role in the global network

On May 27, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Duk-geun) and KOTRA (President Kang Kyung-sung) held an appointment ceremony to designate three new Investment Promotion Ambassadors for Korea. The newly appointed ambassadors are: ▲Ahn Choong-young, Professor at Chung-Ang University ▲ Kim Woo-kyu, CEO of Merck Korea ▲ Sean Blakeley, Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Korea

MOTIE and KOTRA’s Invest KOREA initiative aim to strengthen engagement with key global investors and raise global awareness of Korea’s outstanding investment environment by appointing distinguished figures from the politics and business sectors at home and abroad as Investment Promotion Ambassadors.

The newly appointed ambassadors represent academia, global enterprise, and international business chambers. With their comprehensive understanding of Korea’s economic policies and their global corporate leadership experience, they are expected to actively promote Korea as a rising global investment hub by leveraging their extensive international networks and expertise.

Currently, Invest KOREA operates a network of 14 ambassadors across 10 countries, including the UK, France, Japan, and the US. It plans to further diversify its outreach by appointing ambassadors in the Middle East and ASEAN regions, enhancing direct communication channels with potential investors.

Ryu Peob-min , Director-General for Investment Policy at MOTIE, stated, “The government is fully committed to attracting foreign investment by raising cash grant limits, offering comprehensive tax and fiscal support in Opportunity Development Zones, and improving living conditions for foreign investors. We hope the ambassadors will serve as critical bridges between Korea and major countries to support our efforts in securing cutting-edge technologies and strengthening supply chains.”

Commissioner Kim Tae-hyung of Invest KOREA added, “Amid ongoing shifts in the global investment landscape, it is more important than ever to reinforce Korea’s position as a stable and competitive investment destination. We are confident that the newly appointed ambassadors will play a key role in this endeavor.”
