KOTRA to Operate Korea Pavilion at India’s Largest Semiconductor Exhibition, SEMICON India 2025
India's semiconductor market is expected to double by 2030, emerging as a key hub for supply chain diversification
10 semiconductor projects are underway across India, expanding opportunities for materials, equipment, and parts companies
India is emerging as a key hub for semiconductor production with restructuring of global supply chain . KOTRA, in collaboration with the Korea Power Device Industry Association and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, supported Korea’s entry into the Indian market by operating the Korea Pavilion at ‘SEMICON India 2025’ held from September 2 to 4 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Center near New Delhi, India.
SEMICON India 2025 is the largest semiconductor exhibition in India, which the Indian government is promoting as a strategic industry. This year, 350 companies, including global equipment and materials companies such as Tata, Kaynes, and Micron, as well as investment institutions, participated. Korea, along with Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, operated national pavilions.
The Korea Pavilion showcased products from five prominent domestic semiconductor companies and set up a B2B consultation space to facilitate export negotiations. Additionally, the pavilion participated in roundtable discussions organized by the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) and networking programs with Indian government agencies, laying the foundation for expanding semiconductor cooperation between the two countries.
Demand for semiconductors in India has been rapidly increasing due to the rise in smartphone, home appliance, and automobile production. The current market size of approximately USD 53 billion (about KRW 69 trillion) is expected to grow to around USD 100 billion (about KRW 130 trillion) by 2030, which would account for about 10% of the global semiconductor market. In response, the Indian government launched the ‘SEMICON India’ program in 2021, with a budget of USD 9 billion (about KRW 12 trillion), and established the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to attract global companies. * McKinsey and SIA (Semiconductor Industry Association) estimate that the global semiconductor market to reach about USD 1 trillion by 2030
With growing global uncertainties, including the imposition of semiconductor tariffs by the U.S., India is being recognized as a critical hub for supply chain diversification. An industry representative from India stated, "Now is the optimal time to enter the Indian semiconductor supply chain, as the industry is just beginning to take off," and added that this could provide new opportunities for Korean companies as well.
Kim Dong-hyon, KOTRA’s South Asia Regional Director General, remarked, “Currently, 10 semiconductor projects are underway across India, focusing on backend processing. Through participation in this exhibition, we will fully support our companies to directly assess India’s growth potential and collaborate with local companies to achieve tangible results.”
