To ensure a stable water supply essential for semiconductor production, the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Water Resources Corporation are preparing a plan to supply the water of the Hwacheon Dam and the Paldang Dam. In the short term, the plan is to supply 200,000 tons of water per day by combining recycled wastewater and the surplus capacity of the existing Paldong Dam. In the long term, they aim to convert the Hwacheon Dam into a multipurpose dam to supply 600,000 tons of water daily.

Additionally, the construction of a national semiconductor complex in Namsa-eup, I-dong of Yongin has been finalized in December 2024. Samsung Electronics plans to invest KRW 360 trillion won to develop a 7,280,000 ㎡ national semiconductor complex and build six fabs. Over 200 component manufacturers and fabless companies are also expected to relocate to the area.
Furthermore, a research complex spanning 1,220,000 ㎡ will be developed at Samsung Electronics' Giheung Campus in Giheung-gu, Yongin. It is projected that 50,000 talents will be attracted to the national industrial complex, while 5,000 specialized personnel will be recruited for the research complex.
As a result, Yongin is poised to become the world's largest semiconductor mega cluster, with projections that one-third of the world's semiconductors will be produced in Yongin. Furthermore, the cluster’s Collaboration Zone will also house a high-tech semiconductor mini-fab linked to mass production, which Korean semiconductor makers have long sought. The facility will enable companies to verify whether the products or materials they develop properly work in production lines.
With the designation of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex as a national semiconductor complex, Yongin is poised to rise as a leading hub for the semiconductor industry, with SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics as leading companies, painting a promising future for the region.
