(JEONJU=Yonhap News) Jeonju city is to foster the MICE industry to attract various international conferences, exhibitions, and academic events.

MICE stands for Meeting, Incentives, Convention, and Exhibition. The MICE industry is huge in size, and consumption per person is significantly more than general tourists, thus generating greater tourism profits and jobs.

The city established an office in charge of attracting conventions recently, and will build a cooperative system with public institutions transferring to an innovative city Jeonju, cultural facilities and major hotels to set up a system supportive of attractive small academic events and conventions.

The city will have a regular meeting with those involved in hotels and tourism industry, and attend "Asia Pacific MICE Business Festival" held at Suwon Convention Center on April 4-5 to promote Jeonju's MICE industry.

The city plans to have business meetings with buyers and promote meeting facilities and other infrastructure.

A Jeonju city official said, "Once Jeonju is designated as the third financial hub, domestic and international financial institutions will have huge demand for meetings. Combined with visitors to Hanok Village, the MICE industry is expected to contribute to development of regional economy."
