According to Yonhap News,

The mutually beneficial jobs model (Gunsan-type jobs) in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do have taken a step forward to become a cluster of the electric vehicle industry.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on August 19, the 'Gunsan-type Job Edison Motors Construction Completion Ceremony' was held at the Edison Motors Factory in the Gunsan Saemangeum Industrial Complex.

It is the first time in two years and ten months since Edison Motors and other Gunsan labor, management, private sector and government signed the Gunsan-type mutually beneficial job creation agreement in October 2019.

As the Edison Motors production plant goes into operation following the first car delivery ceremony held by Myungshin in June, Gunsan-type jobs are put on the right track.

Gunsan-type jobs are a project to create a electric vehicle cluster centered on small and medium-sized enterprises based on concessions and compromises between local labor, management, private sector, and government. The goal is to invest KRW 341.8 billion over the three years and hire 1,026 full-time workers.

The companies participating in the project have agreed to push for cooperative projects through joint R&D, marketing, and logistics based on the value chain agreement signed last year, and to endeavor for mutual growth.

They also prepared measures for win-win relationship between labor and management, such as introduction of Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), a system in which labor observes board meetings as a means to establish stable labor-management relationship and realize transparent management.

Edison Motors, which completed construction, aims to produce 100 electric buses and 2,500 electric trucks by the end of this year. By doing so, it plans to become a new growth engine for Gunsan by driving the conversion of commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks into future vehicles.

In addition, the company hired 63 employees, about 75%, of the 83 newly employed from the region. It plans to provide high-quality jobs to the youth so that they can stay in their hometowns and grow into a mainstay for the local economy.

In a congratulatory speech at the ceremony, Minister Moon Sung-wook of Trade, Industry and Energy said, "I hope that companies participating in Gunsan-type job project continue to make efforts to flourish the local economy and contribute to the growth of the Korean economy by building a cluster of the electric vehicle industry, especially in a period of green and digital industrial transformation."

He added, "In the future, we will continue to identify and provide additional support projects necessary for the mutually beneficial job creation project to be effective, while closely communicating with local governments to identify and resolve difficulties in the operation."
