Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA) said on September 2 that it had earmarked KRW 246 billion as a next-year budget to develop the Saemangeum area as a center for green new deals and new industries.

The budget is focused on the creation of future new industrial clusters, timely construction of major facilities, and the revitalization of culture and tourism.

For the creation of a new future industry cluster, KRW 29.8 billion in long-term rental land development and KRW 3.2 billion in the establishment of a center for training renewable energy specialist were reflected, which is to go into the establishment of a smart green national pilot complex and creation of an ecosystem of fostering new industries.

The budgets also set aside to build major facilities to improve accessibility and living conditions of residents are: construction of the first and second phases of the North-South road (KRW 169.2 billion); water supply facilities for a stable water supply (KRW 4 billion); and creation of the Eco Forest Belt (scattering dust disaster prevention forest KRW 7 billion).

Also, KRW 8 billion for the construction of the National Reclamation History Museum, KRW 600 million for the Hallyu Music & Arts Festival, and KRW 200 million for the yacht competition were included to expand Saemangeum cultural and tourism content.

Administrator Yang Choong-mo of SDIA said, "we have focused our capabilities on securing budgets that would make tangible changes to Saemangeum," adding "we will do our best to turn Saemangeum into a center of green new deal and new industries."
