According to Yonhap News,

Hyundai E&C announced on June 2 that it was selected as a participating organization for the 'water electrolysis-based hydrogen production base construction project' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).

Electrolysis of water is the technology that produces oxygen and hydrogen by decomposing water with electricity, and is attracting attention as the key to clean hydrogen production. Clean hydrogen refers to hydrogen that does not emit carbon dioxide or emits significantly less carbon dioxide during the hydrogen production process.

This project is to build the largest commercial clean hydrogen production base in Korea that can produce, store, and transport more than 1 ton of hydrogen per day through a 2.5 MW-water electrolysis facility in a new and renewable energy complex in Buan, Jeollabuk-do by May 2024.

What is under consideration is to connect hydrogen produced here with hydrogen charging stations, etc., to be utilized for hydrogen mobility.

Hyundai E&C is in charge of basic and detailed design of the hydrogen production base, purchasing and construction of major equipment in a consortium consisting of Jeollabuk-do, Buan-gun, Jeonbuk Technopark, and Techcross Water & Energy.
