Jeonju-si, public organizations, and companies in Jeollabuk-do joined hands to foster the industrial ecosystem of the XR·metaverse industries.

Jeonju City and the Jeonju IT&CT Promotion Agency (JICA) launched the XR·Metaverse Industry Alliance, attended by about 30 officials from related organizations and companies leading the XR industry in the region on June 23.

The XR·Metaverse Industry Alliance is a private-led cooperative body initiated to foster related industries. On the day of launching ceremony, participants presented major projects. They also discussed ways to cooperate with participating companies and organizations.

The city and JICA publicly recruied, from April this year, project groups to take part in the Alliance. After document screening on planning, such as project plan and division of responsibilities for each participant, they finally selected 6 projects, with potential for commercialization.

Six selected proejcts include a service matching depressed elderly living alone and MZ generation, creation of Pungnammum 3-gil XR street, among others. About 20 companies will participate in these projects. The participating companies will hammer out the final business models for project commercialization by September this year, and present business proposals.

A city official said, "with the arrival of contactless age, XR technology emerges as key technology for the world to adapt to the new global economic paradigm," adding that "we will not spare support in making Jeonju as a city that leads virtual convergence economic era and digital economy".
