According to Yonhap News,

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced on July 7 that it had designated the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex (5·6 Sections, 3,709,063㎡) as Korea's first 'Smart Green National Pilot Industrial Complex'.

A smart green industrial complex refers to an industrial complex that has built infrastructure in a way that minimizes energy consumption and expands the supply of renewable energy. The goal is to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% or more.

The Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA) previously declared a smart green vision at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex in December 2020, and established a basic plan for the Smart Green Industrial Complex in December of last year, requesting designation as a national pilot industrial complex.

The MOLIT selected the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex as a candidate site for a smart green industrial complex in April last year, went through the resolution by the Industrial Location Policy Deliberation Committee last month, and finally designated as the smart green national pilot industrial complex.

The Saemangeum Smart Green Industrial Complex aims to realize a 'RE100 (100% renewable energy) industrial complex' by 2040, going beyond reducing greenhouse gas by 25%.

To this end, it is planned to build a solar power generation facility with a total of 180MW capacity on the building's roof and in the parking lot by 2029, and utilize floating solar panels and fuel cell generation.

In addition, it is planned to improve the energy self-reliance rate through the energy integration platform, and apply micro grid (independent power network) based on Energy Storage System (ESS).

Also, 'digital twin'-based smart integration safety system and drone controls will be pushed for. A digital twin is a technology that composes a prototype design by realizing objects or systems of the same size in a virtual space.
