According to Newsis,

A comprehensive center will be established in Saemangeum that can research, produce, and test hypertube, which is called the next-generation transportation method.

Jeollabuk-do announced on the 4th that Saemangeum was selected for the site selection contest for the 'future-type next-generation high-speed transportation hypertube comprehensive test center' of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Land Transport Science and Technology Promotion Agency).

From 2024 to 2032, a total of 904.6 billion won will be invested in Saemangeum from 2024 to 2032, with the goal of test driving at 800 km/h.

After the R&D project, a comprehensive test center for testing, verification, and certification of related technologies such as hypertube vehicles, supplies, and safety will be operated. In this regard, hypertube is called a next-generation transportation method that can simultaneously meet the speed of an aircraft and the accessibility of a train to the city center.

It can travel at a maximum speed of 1200 km/h in a tube in a sub-vacuum (0.001 atmosphere) state with little air resistance. It is operated in a way that propels and levitates the vehicle with magnetic force.

The construction of the Saemangeum Hypertube Comprehensive Test Center is largely divided into three parts. The first is an infrastructure construction project to construct sub-vacuum tubes and test lines with a pressure of 0.001.The second is a study of the levitation track that levitates and propels the vehicle with magnetic force, and the third is the production of a driving vehicle that can run while maintaining the airtightness of the cabin from a sub-vacuum state.

As the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is confirmed as Saemangeum, it will establish a detailed business plan and carry out research and development projects such as preliminary feasibility studies. After passing the preliminary feasibility study, R&D and design will be carried out by 2027, and infrastructure such as test lines and comprehensive test centers will be built from 2028 to 2030, and then test operation will begin in 2031.

The province strives to create new jobs and food according to the selection of public offerings.Collaborate with material research institutes to promote R&D and discover tasks to research and develop basic, applied, and commercialized technologies for hypertube.

It will promote research and demonstration projects on core hypertube technologies by linking technological support with leading companies related to advanced convergence materials, railway vehicle manufacturing, electric vehicles, and energy.Promote the internal development of Saemangeum and create a space for realization of future transportation networks along with aviation, railroad, port, and autonomous driving.

Governor Kim Gwan-young said, "We will open the future of Saemangeum and the future of Korea by hosting the Hypertube Comprehensive Test Center as an opportunity." He thanked the 1.8 million residents, the provincial council, the Saemangeum Development Administration, and Gunsan City for their cooperation in attracting the Hypertube Comprehensive Test Center.
