According to Yonhap News,

LS Cable & System will mass-produce CuFlake, a new material for copper foil, which was developed independently by the company for the first time in the world, by the end of this year.

On March 25, LS Cable & System announced that its subsidiary Korea Future Materials signed an MOU with Jeonbuk State, Gunsan-si, and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation for investment to build a new plant.

The factory will be built on a 16,576㎡ (about 5,014 pyeong) site in Gunsan National Industrial Complex in Jeonbuk State with a total floor area of 7,935㎡ (about 2,400 pyeong). It has been planned to commence construction in May this year, followed by mass production in December, with about KRW 36 billion investment.

Cuplakes use copper pieces instead of copper wires as raw materials for copper foil, shortening the processing procedure, and offer the advantage of significantly reducing process costs by not going through cutting or cleaning process for removing impurities.

The company said it decided to invest in Gunsan-si considering its proximity to major copper foil companies, active support for companies by Jeonbuk State and Gunsan-si, where secondary battery-related investment is active.
