According to Pulse by Maeil Business News Korea,
Samsung Electronics Co. and North Jeolla Province have partnered to support local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adopting smart factory technologies.
The smart manufacturing innovation project, Samsung Electronics’ first region-specific initiative, aims to enhance productivity and efficiency among SMEs, stimulate the regional economy, and create a model for sustainable growth.
“We’re dedicated to providing SMEs in North Jeolla Province with the technology and training they need, along with our expertise in smart factory operations,” said a Samsung representative.
The local government is also bolstering the initiative. The provincial government and 14 municipal administrations have committed administrative and financial support for the digital transformation of small manufacturers, with a total investment of 26 billion won ($18.8 million) over the next three years.
In April, Samsung launched the North Jeolla Campus of the Smart Factory Academy, where over 140 specialists have already been trained in smart factory operations.
Led by instructors with more than 20 years of experience at Samsung, the academy focuses on imparting technology and operational expertise.
SMEs have expressed high satisfaction with the transformation.
“Collaborating over eight weeks was not just about learning new technology but it instilled a greater sense of accountability in the workplace,” said an official from Seah C&S, an automotive parts manufacturer based in the region.
Chinhan F&B, a local producer of chicken breast and sausage products, has also joined, gaining access to Samsung’s employee shopping mall and preparing for overseas market entry.
“Support from Samsung and the province has given us renewed energy for business,” said a company official.
