New Zealand's renowned film studio, Kumeu Film Studios, known for its work on blockbuster films such as "Mulan" and "Avatar, has officially opened its Korean branch in Jeonju.
Jeonju-si and Kumeu Film Studios held a grand opening ceremony at The May Hotel in Jeonju on November 12.
The ceremony was attended by over 80 guests, including Jeonju Mayor Woo Beom-gi and Peter Yu, CEO of Kumeu Film Studios.
The office of Kumu Film Studio's Korean branch was set up at New Industrial Convergence Knowledge Industry Center of the Jeonju IT&CT Industry Promotion Agency.
Jeonju plans to provide a place for the construction of stuidos in the northern part of Jeonju to support the studio's establishment.
In his congratulatory speech, Jeonju's Mayor Woo said, "The establishment of Kumu Film Studios in Jeonju laid the foundation for Jeonju to grow into an international film industry city. Jeonju will cooperate with global film companies to become a vibrant filming industry city."
CEO Peter Yoo also responded, "Jeonju's rich cultural heritage and its citizens' enthusiasm made Kumu Film Studios to establish its Korean branch in Jeonju," adding that "we are committed to making the city a global filmmaking destination."
Located in western Auckland, New Zealand, Kumu Film Studios boasts a large film production facilities.
With the world's best filming infrastructure spanning 271,000 square meters, it is one of the most favored filming locations for major Hollywood film companies.
Global filmmakers such as Disney, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, and Amazon Prime have filmed a lot of works here.
According to Jeonju-si, Kumu Film Studios suggested their goal of growing together with the region through cooperation and exchanges with global filmmakers and discovering local talent.
