On January 31, Jeongeup-si in Jeonbuk State announced that it will invest a total of KRW 52.9 billion to foster the green bio industry as part of efforts to secure future growth engines.
The city has secured essential material validation and mass supply infrastructure for companies' commercialization processes, in connection with the "GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)-based Microbial Industry Support Facility," which was completed in October of last year.
Along with GMP certification, the facility is equipped with microbial cultivation, purification/concentration, and drying/formulation equipment, and produces microbial products that are certified by accredited institutions.
It also guarantees the safety and effectiveness of microbial products for agricultural and livestock use, such as pet food, fertilizers, and crop protection products.
Building on this foundation, the city plans to to secure marketability by conducting product verification projects starting with pig farming households this year and expanding to beef cattle farms next year.
This year, the city also secured a national public bidding project for establishing an advanced analysis system for green bio materials, with plans to set up a bio-foundry capable of automation, high-speed processing, and standardization.
Additionally, the city will create space for 40 companies, establishing a support system encompassing material development, product commercialization, verification, mass production, and entrepreneurship.
The city's mayor commented, "The green bio industry is a promising sector that can make the most of Jeongeup's resources, and we will push forward the development of a hub."
