According to Yonhap News,

On May 29, Iksan-si announced that it has established a comprehensive plan for the systematic development of the food tech industry.

Food tech is an emerging industry that integrates advanced technologies such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), biotechnology, and artificial intelligence (AI) across the entire food production, distribution, and consumption process. It has been rapidly growing in various fields, including alternative foods, food automation, and smart packaging.

Based on this comprehensive plan, the city aims to accelerate the creation of a food tech ecosystem by focusing on the development of alternative food technologies, fostering specialized companies, training professionals, and building industrial infrastructure.

The city plans to complete the "Food Tech Research Support Center," which is being developed within the National Food Cluster, by next year. This center was the first to be selected in the country as a public bidding project the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA). It will serve as a space for developing key technologies for alternative foods and producing prototypes.

Additionally, the city will operate a Food Tech Industry Promotion Policy Committee, centered around experts, and stimulate the local food tech innovation ecosystem through professional workforce training and startup support.

Furthermore, the city is also promoting the digital transformation of the food industry through a metaverse technology demonstration project. The city aims to support innovative growth of businesses such as automation and enhanced product quality by supporting the development of new technologies in areas like K-Sauce, alternative meats, beverages, and packaging, and building an AI big data platform.

Iksan-si plans to prepare for the full implementation of the food tech industry institutional foundation at the end of this year by establishing related ordinances, creating a roadmap to lead the market, and taking proactive measures.

Iksan's mayor stated that "Iksan is the only city in the country that is home to the National Food Cluster, making it the optimal location for the food tech industry. We will lead the rapidly growing food tech market, which is expanding by more than 30% annually, and transform the local agricultural food industry into a high-value-added future industry."
