Jeonju-si to establish the foundation for recycled carbon materials industry by 2028
On July 4, Jeonju-si announced that it has been selected for the project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE), titled "Establishment of Core Technology Demonstration and Infrastructure for eco-Friendly Recycled Carbon Fiber-based Carbon Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics (CFRTP)"
The key of this project is to establish a foundation for recycling scrap materials and discarded carbon composites generated during the carbon fiber production process into high-performance composite materials.
Accordingly, the city plans to invest a total of KRW 11.5 billion, including KRW 8 billion in national funding, to promote the localization of related technologies by 2028.
The city will collaborate with the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency, DYETEC Research Institute, FITI Testing & Research Institute, Jeonju University, and the Korea Carbon Nano Industry Association to build an integrated, full-cycle infrastructure covering the manufacturing, molding, testing, and reliability verification of recycled carbon fiber.
An official from Jeonju-si said, "This project will be a turning point in the localization of recycled carbon materials and the establishment of a related industrial ecosystem."
