According to Yonhap News,

GL Chem, a precision chemical material manufacturing company, has established a secondary battery material production plant in Gunsan, Jeonbuk State.

On July 18, Jeonbuk State stated that GL Chem held the completion ceremony of its Gunsan factory at the Gunsan Second National Industrial Complex.

Founded in 2004, GL Chem is the only company in South Korea licensed by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to produce Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC), a natural material extracted from plant-based fibers.

The company invested KRW 30 billion to build a factory on a 21,450㎡ site in the Gunsan Second National Industrial Complex, where it will produce CMC binders for secondary batteries (adhesives that help fix graphite particles in the anode of secondary batteries).

It is expected to hire 49 employees for the new factory.

A GL Chem official stated, "High-purity CMC is a core material for secondary batteries, satisfying both mechanical stability and electrochemical properties in electrodes. We anticipate continued demand growth for this product driven by the expansion of the EV market."

An official from Jeonbuk State commented, "We will do our best to support GL Chem's growth in Gunsan and ensure mutually beneficial development with the local community."
