The first Hydrogen Vehicle Fuel Cell Resource Circulation Test and Certification Center' broke ground in Wanju
Jeonbuk State announced on September 11th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the nation's first 'Hydrogen Fuel Cell Resource Circulation Test and Certification Center' at the Techno Valley 2 Industrial Complex in Wanju.
This center marks the starting point for building a core infrastructure that will proactively address environmental and safety issues arising from the expansion of hydrogen vehicles and support the hydrogen circular economy, according to the province.
The center, led by the Korea Testing & Research Institute, will invest a total of KRW 25 billion, including KRW 10 billion in national funding, with completion expected by 2028.
Once completed, the center will carry out demonstrations of remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling technologies for hydrogen fuel cells, standardization efforts both domestically and internationally, as well as safety testing, certification, and business support.
It is expected to significantly contribute to transforming hydrogen vehicle waste fuel cells into high-value industrial resources, supporting an environmentally friendly industrial structure.
Wanju is becoming a hub for hydrogen production, a hydrogen product inspection and certification center, hydrogen commercial vehicles, hydrogen storage containers, and fuel cell material companies, creating an ecosystem connecting hydrogen production, use, and recycling, with the potential for significant new industry creation and ripple effects.
