According to Yonhap News,

Hanok (Korean Traditional House) Village, the representative tourist attraction of Jeonju City, Jeonbuk (northern Jeolla Province), has emerged as a global tourist attraction.

The village is enhancing its profile being designated as the Star of the Korean Tourism Industry and Cittaslow Town. It is also selected to be included in the National Project for Globalization of the Brand of Region by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.

The central government-led project is designed to support local governments to promote their brands using their tourist attractions or festivals with the national budget worth up to one billion won.

Reportedly, the central government also plans to suggest follow-up measures to support them.

The selection of Hanok Village was based on the fact that the village is the only traditional cultural space where people are actually living demonstrating Korea traditional culture to visitors.

The ministry thinks highly of the fact that the village is Korea's only traditional cultural space where people are residing.

Based on its unique characteristic, Hanok Village has been selected as the Star of the Korean Tourism Industry, Korea's Greatest Tourism Attraction and Cittaslow Town since 2010.

Jeonju plans to attract more foreign tourists, create the Korean traditional culture experience program and enhance its promotion.

"Our Hanok Village has won the grand slam of the tourism sector. We will make continuing efforts to promote our city and Hanwok Village worldwide through aggressive marketing," says Mayor Song Ha-jin.
