According to Yonhap News,
The National Fusion Research Institute (NFRI) opened a convergence plasma research center early this month at the national industrial complex in Gunsan City, north Jeolla Province (Jeonbuk).
A total of 39.4 billion won was injected into building the center that includes a research center, dormitory and special equipment.
About 50 researchers will be relocated to the center from the NFRI in Daejeon to conduct research on commercialization of plasma technology and cultivate human resources in the relevant sector.
Plasma refers to a state of matter similar to gas in which a certain portion of the particles is ionized. Plasma application technology is widely used in industries that vary from semiconductor, display, energy, environment, medicine to new materials.
"Convergence technology can increase both efficiency and economic opportunity for conventional technology," said a Jeonbuk official. "We will work hard to contribute to creating added values of domestic industries via academic and industrial partnership."
