According to Yonhap News,

The number of visitors to Jeollabuk-do (Province) came in at 68.6 million in 2012, up 5 million from a year earlier. The province touted the combined efforts of 14 local cities and counties in the province to celebrate the year 2012, designated the Year of Visit Jeollabuk-do.

Despite the internal and external hardships, caused by the global economic slowdown, the efforts led to a year-on-year increase of 8.1 percent in the number of total tourists and a whopping 35.7 percent increase of foreign visitors.

Last year, various performances and festivals were held to mark the Year of Visit Jeollabuk-do including Taekwondo Performance in Hanok Village, K-Pop Performance, Marine Sports Festival, World Pilgrimage Festival and World Art Maters.

The establishment of Jeollabuk-do booth in the Yeosu Expo, in particular, turned out to have brought many visitors to Hanok Village in Jeonju-si (City), Jeollabuk-do.

"The year 2012 was a landmark year to lay the groundwork for the development of Jeollabuk-do's tourism industry by promoting its cultural assets and tourism products," said a Jeollabuk-do official.
