National Food Cluster Gains Momentum

The National Food Cluster in Iksan, North Jeolla Province is gaining its momentum.

According to Iksan city Wednesday, the city completed inspection for 1,397 pieces of lands and 1,161 obstructions from October 2012 to April 2013, and an appraisal institute has begun assessment.

After assessment, Iksan city will compensate for damages.

Construction of road expansion and pavement is currently underway by the Iksan Regional Construction Management Administration and Iksan city and related agencies are discussing measures to establish infrastructure including water supply facilities and waste water management system.

Iksan has signed 25 agreements for investment and cooperation with Korean and foreign food companies and research institutes, including Nizo Food Research from Netherlands, from last year to the first half of this year.

Iksan mayor Lee Han-su noted that first phase of the project will create 22,000 jobs and lay the foundation for regional growth, adding that the city will actively support the Korea Land & Housing Corporation, the developer of the project.

The National Food Cluster will be developed with a food industrial complex of 2.32 million m2 and a multifunctional city of 1.26 million m2 by the end of 2015. Project budget stands at KRW 553.5 billion.

Around 150 food companies and research institutes will move in to research, develop and process food.
