Wanju County’s local food is receiving favorable comments.

The County announced that two of its companies received awards at direct transaction sector of the 2013 direct transaction contest held in Ilsan.

Out of five sectors and 11 award winners, Wanju won two sectors and three awards.

The contest was held for the first time this year by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Rural Affairs to promote direct transaction to citizens and enhance understanding of the new types of agricultural product distribution.

Local Food from Wanju was also recognized as a success case Monday to receive the Minsiter of Security and Public Administration’s award.

The case will be also introduced in textbooks for middle school students.

Wanju County, which has three locations for direct transactions, will open additional places.

An insider of the award winner noted that local food reduce environmental damage due to logistics and ensure stable income for farmers, adding that the company will focus on making local food as a standard for Korean consumers.
